Our Winemakers

Meet our winemakers; some of the most talented in the business. Collectively they have well over a century of winemaking experience in some of the world's most esteemed winemaking regions.

Marco DiGiulio

Marco DiGiulio brings 30 years of winemaking experience to the vineyards and cellars of Vintage Wine Estates, where he oversees winemaking and production for the entire portfolio.

As Vintage Wine Estates continues to grow its fine wine portfolio, Marco now directs winemaking at Clos Pegase, Swanson Vineyards and Cosentino in Napa, and at B.R. Cohn Winery, Viansa Sonoma and Sonoma Coast Vineyards. Additionally, he oversees all premium winemaking at the state-of-the-art, solar-powered Vintage Wine Estates production facility in Hopland, California.

Marty Peterson

Marty Peterson, Vice President, Operations for Vintage Wine Estates, and Winemaker for Napa winery, Cosentino, runs operations for VWE wineries and facilities, warehouse logistics, and outside services. A vineyard and sourcing specialist, he oversees vineyard operations for 500+ estate acres and grape sourcing. Marty also manages custom wine production that includes a two million case contract for Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits. With many diverse responsibilities, under separate auspices, you expect and get a strong individual who is rooted in the business in a deeply personal way.

Nancy Walker

A California native, Nancy has had the luxury of working as a winemaker in California for years. Based in Mendocino County, Nancy has traveled throughout the region visiting growers from Temecula to Portland and from the Shenandoah Valley of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Through her travels, Nancy has developed an appreciation for the regional and local differences that each unique vineyard produces.

Anthony Austin

A fourth-generation Sonoma County native, Anthony brings his vast knowledge, incredible artistry and experience to SCV and Windsor Sonoma Winery. By carefully selecting the vineyards and working closely with each grower, Austin obtains ripe, balanced fruit from prime Sonoma County and Extreme Sonoma Coast vineyards.

Glenn Hugo

Glenn continues the Girard tradition of terroir-driven and minimalist intervention. He brings a practical artisanal approach to winemaking with a focus on wine as part of the culinary experience. Glenn's philosophy is simple: wine is to be shared with friends and family; it is a living and breathing expression that constantly evolves and instills memories. With this in mind, his focus gives him a keen sense of place within the region, and he is driven to allow Napa Valley shine through in every bottle.

Russell Fish

Russ Fish, a Sonoma county native, gained the majority of his winemaking experience in Sonoma County wineries. After graduating from UC Davis with a Master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology, Russ worked at several wineries both small and large in Alexander Valley and Mendocino County. In July of 2012, Russ moved to Vintage Wine Estates as Associate winemaker for Ray’s Station Winery in Hopland and then Winemaker for Cartlidge and Browne. Russ believes in sourcing grapes from all over the bountiful North Coast region to make fruit forward balanced wines.

Amy Ludovissy

Hired as a lab intern in 2011, Amy has grown and developed over 6 years into the enologist and head winemaker she is for the Viansa Sonoma brand. From her early days, her connection to wine was quite unique as she started to make wine with her parents, in their basement, in Iowa! This early, memorable alignment eventually led her to wine-making through the study of enology. Amy devoted herself to exploring winemaking abroad in New Zealand in 2009 before returning to California. Today, as head winemaker for Viansa Sonoma, Amy is committed to showcasing the very best that Sonoma has to offer.

Robin Akhurst

Robin Akhurst’s road to Napa took him around the globe through eight consecutive and exhausting harvests, picking up an impressive list of mentors along the way.

After receiving a post-graduate degree in Viticulture and Enology from Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand, Robin worked harvests in Marlborough, Burgundy, and Australia before returning to Napa Valley. In 2015, Robin joined the Vintage Wine Estate winemaking team for Clos Pegase and Swanson Vineyards, with the desire to craft wines that express the character and distinction of Napa Valley.

Blake Kuhn

Winemaker for Clayhouse wines, the Paso Robles wines, Blake Kuhn is a native Californian, graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in biology and environmental sciences; and continued his wine education at UC Davis.

Starting in the wine industry as a grape sampler in the vineyard, Blake learned and worked his way up as a lab tech, assistant winemaker, and ultimately, to senior winemaker when he came to Clayhouse in 2011 where he continues as a winemaker today. Blake is a committed environmentalist, leading sustainability efforts at Clayhouse, including harvesting certified sustainable grapes, working in a winery 90% powered by solar panels and using French oak barrels from government managed sustainable forests.

Consulting Winemakers

Chris Phelps

Chris Phelps, an internationally respected winemaker and red Bordeaux specialist, studied at The University of California, Davis, and the Institute of Enology at the University of Bordeaux who has worked at Pétrus, Dominus Estate and Caymus Vineyards. Most recently Chris was Winemaker Emeritus for Swanson Winery & Vineyards in Oakville, acquired by Vintage Wine Estates in 2015 where he continues to help us craft some of Napa Valley’s finest Napa wines.

Bob Cabral

Renowned winemaker and whiskey aficionado, Bob Cabral signed on to The Splinter Group, a Vintage Wine Estates property, continuing the legacy of winemaker-crafted spirits. Bob earned Winemaker of the Year honors from Wine Enthusiast in 2011, and is recognized for having made the first American Pinot Noir to be awarded 100 points from a major wine publication.
